A terrible day in the Great Lakes tomorrow with the blizzard moving in. The entire country will see relatively low PWI scores tomorrow with all the cool weather around. Only South Florida will see anything above PWI 7. All in all, it looks like winter!

Expecting a perfect weather day at Kennedy Space Center in Florida tomorrow, but there are no scheduled space shuttle launches after NASA killed the shuttle program. But if you going to Ron Jon Surf Shop, in Cocoa Beach, Florida…it will be just as nice. This perfect weather extends north through Daytona Beach, Flagler Beach, then curves inland at St. Augustine towards Lake City. On the Gulf of Mexico side of Florida there is another strip along the coast from Hernando Beach, north to Homosassa Springs, to Suwannee. There is a large area of PWI 10′s in southwest Georgia and northern Florida as well. Some of the larger towns in this area include: Tallahassee, Florida…Thomasville, Moultrie, and Bainbridge in Georgia. Overall, the mean for Florida is nearly 9.0 and will be tops for the nation tomorrow.
A blizzard in the Midwest will keep scores at their lowest from just east of Denver to Grand Island, Nebraska and Dodge City, Kansas. And of course, quite nasty in the Pacific Northwest again with Washington State at the bottom.

Perfect weather is still missing from the map Monday as winter really takes hold of the country. Louisiana will see the best weather as a whole Monday, followed closely by Texas. Really awful weather in the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies as snow, wind and rain dominate. Even down in Hawaii the PWI will be held down by some clouds and rain.

The mean Perfect Weather Index for the nation Saturday will be a low 4.8 and perfect 10′s will be completely absent for the first time since last winter. Perhaps this is the first true sign of winter in America. The best weather will be confined to Florida where the highest scores will be along the northern Gulf and inland parts of North Central Florida.
The worst weather will be in the Great Lakes where a messy combination of rain and snow will occur tomorrow. Even Arizona will be a pitiful 3.6 mean which is quite a bit lower than even Alaska. Not that Arizona will be colder than Alaska, but there will be clouds, rain and wind whereas much of interior Alaska will see sunshine and light winds.

Worst: 1. Wisconsin 2. Michigan 3. Iowa 4. Indiana 5. Minnesota

A relatively calm day expected across the nation tomorrow as reflected in the muted contrast in the Perfect Weather Index. The standout tomorrow will be Texas with a mean of 7.3 followed by Arizona. Actually, southern Arizona will see the best weather in the nation with lots of PWI 9′s and even some 10′s. Most of the 10′s occur in the remote Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range, so not many people will get to enjoy it. Runner up is Scottsdale, Arizona.
At the bottom is Alaska…by far, but what do you expect this time of year?

It’s very rare for California to be on the top of the PWI list due to its varied terrain and climates. While Southern Califorina may score as high as a perfect 10, the Sierra Neveada Mountains often come in so much lower that they drag down the mean for the state. But on Monday, the mean for the nation is so low (4.8) that California has it’s chance to be #1. I’m forecasting only 57 grid squares of perfect weather tomorrow, all of which will be in Southern California. Several towns lie in the perfect 10 areas in California including: Buellton, Santa Paula, Mission Viejo, Bonsall, Winchester, and Hemet.
A nasty cold front from Portland, Maine to Houston, Texas will lead to nothing better than PWI 5′s over a wide portion of the Eastern US.

Usually I try to stick to discussing the best weather in the nation, but Saturday is an exception. Wyoming will have one of the worst days I have seen since I started this blog. A winter storm will blow into the Rockies bringing with it snow, high winds, and cold temperatures. The mean for the state is a miserable 1.7 with a PWI 3 being the absolute best the Cowboy State can expect. 8 to 16 inches of snow and 50 to 60 mph wind gusts will make for a cozy fireplace kind of day.
The other poor location on Saturday will be Southwest Alaska. A storm there will bring rain, snow and high winds creating widespread PWI 1′s from Adak, to Bethel, to Seward.
Is there any good weather tomorrow? As usual, there will be some perfect weather to focus on most of which will be concentrated in Arizona. Some perfect 10′s in the Valley of the Sun including just east of downtown Phoenix in Paradise Valley. Also: Apache Junction, Whittmann, Buckeye, Marana, and Pisinemo. A few isolated 10′s in Southern California including Temecula. Also Cottonwood, New Mexico and Trent, Texas. Overall though, Louisiana will be on top for the mean with 8.3 expected for the Bayou State.
