A Beautiful Day In Arkansas

June 1st, 2012

Thursday June 1st, 2012

A cold front will sweep through Arkansas today providing showers and storms, but the benefits will be felt tomorrow. Low humidity and pleasant temperatures help push Arkansas to the top of the Perfect Weather Index tomorrow. A very nice day in New England as well, especially Maine. Overall, a pleasant mean of 6.7 for the nation.

Very few perfect 10’s on the map tomorrow. Just a few scattered ones in Utah, Nevada, and California. Hard to have a best pick when no cities or towns are inside a perfect 10, so I’ll say just east of Blue Canyon, California in the Sierra Mountains.

Lots of rain and cool temperatures put Michigan squarely at the bottom on the PWI.

   Best                            Worst

1. Arkansas                     1. Michigan
2. New Hampshire     2. South Carolina
3. Maine                          3. Alaska
4. Missouri                     4. Florida
5.  Massachusetts         5. Ohio

Excellent Weather In The Hooiser State Tomorrow

May 30th, 2012

May 30th, 2012

Not a bad weather day expected across much of the nation with the notable exception of South Dakota where rain, wind, and cool temperatures will keep the Perfect Weather Index down to a mean of only 3.1. Indiana will see the best weather in the nation tomorrow (mean 8.2), but no perfect 10’s. The highest concentration of perfect 10’s tomorrow should be in Nevada in the higher elevations. My pick of the day is Lamoille, Nevada. A few other perfect 10’s also in the West scattered in the mountains of California, and near Erda, Utah. Heat and humidity are really starting to take toll on the index across the South from Texas to Florida.

Best                       Worst

1. Indiana          1. South Dakota
2. Nevada          2. Mississippi
3. Illinois           3. Oklahoma
4. Oregon          4. Florida
5. Ohio                5. Texas

Definition Of Perfect Weather

Lake Champlain, Vermont

Lake Champlain, Vermont

We enjoyed a nearly perfect weather day here in Vermont today! While it did get a little warm for my taste (low 80s), it did confirm what the maps have been showing. I would certainly rate it a 9 out of 10. Winds were light, but enough of a breeze to keep the air circulating. Very few clouds except a few puffy cumulus. The humidity levels were pretty low today as well keeping things comfortable. Unfortunately, as the day wore on, smoke from wildfires in Ontario, Canada drifted in and made the sky fairly hazy. All in all though, a spectacular day here in New England. Hopefully the weather where you are this weekend is just as good!

Memorial Weekend Forecast

May 26th, 2012

Saturday May 26th, 2012

It’s an important vacation weekend, so I thought I would do PWI map for all three Memorial Weekend days. Of course, three days out, the National Weather Service forecasts might be a bit off on the details, but for the most part it should be accurate.

We start the weekend with some abysmal weather in Montana with a huge area of PWI 1, the lowest score possible. Lots of rain, wind, and cold temperatures in that area.  The best weather will be in New England where Vermont will lead the nation with a mean of 8.5 and even a few perfect 10’s in the southern part of the state. Areas of Northern California will see the most perfect 10’s tomorrow and my pick for Saturday is Santa Rosa, California. The national mean is a low 5.2.

May 27th, 2012

May 27th, 2012

Overall, the mean for the nation increases to 5.7 on Sunday, mainly due to much improved weather in the Desert Southwest. Arizona come in the highest on this day mainly due to less wind and more sunshine. My pick in Arizona is Winona. California will also see quite a few perfect 10′ s on Sunday, but comes in second overall to Arizona, mainly due to the influence of the high Sierra Mountains. My pick in California will be in the foothills of the Sierras…Placerville.  Sorry Montana, this just isn’t your weekend.

On Memorial Day, more improving weather across the nation as the mean rises again to 6.3, but very little perfect weather. This is in part due to the very warm and humid conditions east of the

Mississippi. New England looks like it will have another brilliant day and actually has probably the three best days on average.  Most of the perfect 10’s on Monday appear in the desert of Nevada and

Arizona. My pick for Memorial Day will be Ursine, Nevada.

Perfect Day To Be At Wrigley Field

May 25th, 2012

May 25th, 2012

Only six grid squares out of over 1.3 million will be a perfect 10 tomorrow as heat and humidity over the East, and a large storm in the West takes a toll on the Perfect Weather Index. All six occur in the Chicago area right next to Lake Michigan. Looks like a perfect day to catch a game at Wrigley Field. Overall, the national mean is down again to 5.6 with Wisconsin scoring the best (mean 7.9). Showers and winds keep Montana at a mean of only 3.6.

Nice Weather Takes A Break

May 23rd, 2012

May 23rd, 2012

The national Perfect Weather Index dips to 6.0 tomorrow. Rain and cold temperatures in the Northwest, and heat and high winds in the Midwest push the mean to the lowest point in weeks. Michigan is the place to be, but only with a rather low mean of 8.5. You can see on the map the heat and wind transported north to the Minneapolis area, followed closely by a cold front and nicer temperatures in the Dakotas. Much of California looks pretty good as well, apart from the desert areas. Only 135 perfect 10’s tomorrow out of 1.3 million, all of which are in California. My pick of the day will be Rancho Santa Marga in Southern Cali, though there may be a little fog early in the day. That will just help keep the temperatures right where they should be later in the day.

1. Michigan          1. Idaho
2. Maine                2. Washington
3. Indiana             3. Oregon
4. Vermont          4. Wyoming
5. New York        5. Montana

Beautiful Weather In The Land Of Lincoln

May 22nd, 2012

May 22nd, 2012

After a brilliant week last week, the weather this week has taken a nose-dive. Tomorrow, the mean perfect weather index is only 6.1 for the nation as a whole. The best weather will shift east a bit tomorrow with Illinois now looking to be the best in the country. They will also have the largest area of perfect 10’s with the center around Leland, Illinois.

With the large storm system coming into the Pacific Northwest, there are some really terrible PWI scores in that region. Having lived in Oregon for many years, I can safely say I do not miss the rain and cold, especially with summer so near! Washington scores a dismal 3.7. I would like to point out some really great weather in the interior of Alaska as a large area of PWI 9’s appears around the Fairbanks area tomorrow.

Best                               Worst

1. Illinois                     1. Washington
2. Indiana                   2. Idaho
3. Wisconsin             3. Oregon
4. Missouri                4. Montana
5. Michigan                5. South Dakota
