It was a lovely Mother’s Day weekend over most of the country, but today there’s a lot of rain along the east coast from the Carolinas to New England. Behind the rain, some there’s some beautiful weather, especially across Michigan. This is the only place where an appreciable number of perfect 10’s appear, and what’s interesting is they appear in a narrow strip away from Lake Huron. Near the lake, it’s slightly too cool for a perfect 10 with highs in the upper 60s, and in the interior it’s slightly too warm in the mid 70s. Overall, the mean in Michigan is 8.8 which is the best in the nation. My pick of the day is Bay City, Michigan. They are followed closely by Missouri (mean 8.6). West Virginia is at the bottom (mean 5.0) with a whole bunch of rain expected and cool temperatures.
For tomorrow May 15th, 2012, not quite as fine as today but still a lot of good weather around the nation. Ohio should be the best with a mean of 8.8. They are followed closely by North Dakota and Indiana. More rain for New England keeps that region generally under PWI 6. And you’ll notice the extreme heat in Arizona takes a toll on the index there. Only the mountainous areas reach PWI 8. There are just very isolated pockets of perfect 10’s tomorrow, all west of the Mississippi. California will have the most and I would pick Moorpark in Southern California or Bowman Lake in the Sierra’s as the perfect weather locations. In Oregon, Rhododendron in the Cascades will perfect, and Cowdrey, Colorado also scores a 10. Worst weather will be Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine…in that order.
