Monday’s Best Weather In The Dakotas

Beautiful weather to start the work week in the Dakotas. Both North and South Dakota looking great with perfect 10s from Bismark to Pierre. North Dakota has the slight edge over South Dakota. Also some excellent weather in parts of central Alaska. Hot, humid and wet in Florida makes it the worst weather.

Sunday Lacks Perfect Weather, Except In Alaska

A down day for perfect weather Sunday as there is a noticeable lack of 10s on the map. Colorado has the highest mean but just barely reaches 8/10. There is one exception which is parts of interior and western Alaska. Some perfect weather in mainly unpopulated areas, but the largest town is McGrath. Southern Alaska though quite the opposite which helps keep the state’s mean at 6.5. Louisiana and New York share the worst weather today.

Wisconsin Starts June With Nearly Perfect Weather

Wisconsin starts the month of June nearly perfect with a mean PWI score of 9.6! The 10s also extend into Minnesota and Iowa. Florida ends up on the bottom as heat, humidity, and thunderstorms take over in the summer. And for the first time this year, 9s appear in the interior of Alaska near Fairbanks and McGrath.

Large Area Of Perfect Weather In Eastern Montana Tuesday

A rather large area of perfect weather across eastern Montana to start the work week. This extends south into Wyoming and Nebraska, and Nebraska will actually see the highest mean with a great 9.1. Worst weather in Minnesota with cool, breezy weather. Notably, Alaska improves to it’s first 6.0 of the year as high pressure warms up state, especially the interior.

PWI

Best: 1. Nebraska 2. Montana 3. Indiana 4. Idaho 5. Wyoming
Worst: 1. Minnesota 2. Wisconsin 3. Vermont 4. Maine 5. New Hampshire

Idaho, Nevada, Utah & Vermont Tie For Best Weather Sunday

A four-way tie for first on Sunday with Idaho, Nevada, Utah, and Vermont all having a mean score of 8.8. Technically, Idaho is the winner because it has the most number of perfect 10s including Idaho Falls and Pocatello. Heat, humidity, and thunderstorms make for the worst weather in the South. Although, Alaska has the worst mean of 4.9 but parts of the state will see nice weather including the Panhandle and the interior.

PWI

Best: 1. Idaho 2. Nevada 3.  Utah 4. Vermont 5. Oregon
Worst: 1. Alaska 2. Louisiana 3. Mississippi 4. Alabama 5. Tennessee

Perfect Weather Continues To Move North As Summer Approaches

Idaho tops the Perfect Weather Index for the first time this year on Tuesday. As we move toward summer, the best weather is shifting north as heat and humidity lowers the PWI across the southern tier states. Even in Idaho tomorrow, much of the perfect weather will be at higher elevations in places like Stanley, ID. Also 10s across parts of Montana including Billings and Bozeman. Worst weather tomorrow in Minnesota, unless you count Alaska which looks unusually poor.

Who Puts Chili In Spaghetti?

Saturday September 15th, 2012

Sunday September 16th, 2012

What can I say about this weekend? Spectacular! Almost everyone will enjoy a PWI 8 or better at least one day this weekend. In fact, Saturday is a new record high for the Perfect Weather Index with a national  mean of 7.9. One day, maybe we’ll see an 8.0, but not Sunday as it drops down to 7.6 mainly due to a strong front invading from Canada.

The best weather on Saturday will be in Ohio with a huge area of perfect 10’s surrounding Cincinnati. Which brings me to something peculiar I learned about the area’s cuisine after living in nearby Kentucky. Chili and spaghetti? Oh yes, it’s real and so is that mound of cheese on top.  Pictures if the 3-way which is spaghetti, covered with chili and topped with a mound of shredded cheddar cheese. You can also get 4-way with onions or 5-way with onions and red beans.

There will be other perfect 10’s on the map Saturday, but none as yummy as Cincinnati. Most numerous will be in New Mexico and the mountains of Arizona. Also, upstate Wisconsin and areas south of Detroit, Michigan.

Marion Forks, Oregon

As I said, not nearly as nice on Sunday, but still quite a few 10’s. One at the intersection of Ohio, Indiana and Michigan. The rest mainly scattered around the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Marion Forks, Oregon is a good pick here. Incidentally, there is a rather large fish hatchery in Marion Forks (and little else) where you feed rainbow trout and see spawning salmon.

Something else I should mention is the terrible storm up in Alaska (yes another one). The area around Anchorage is prone to high winds due to the channeling effects of the Turnagain Arm. The forecast is for possible gusts to 100 mph. And with rain and cold temperatures, certainly deserving of the PWI 1 in the forecast.
