Excellent Weather In Utah Thursday

June 7th, 2012

June 7th, 2012

Utah appears at the top of the Perfect Weather Index list tomorrow for the first time with a mean of 8.1. A number of perfect 10’s appear in the state Thursday as well, including Wanship, Wallsburg, and Burrville.

The greatest concentration of perfect 10’s though, will be in Wyoming. Again, just west of the Big Horn Mountains, a significant area of perfect scores appear, including such towns as: Frannie, Ralston, Burlington, and Grass Creek. In the southwest portion of the state, Granger and Little America will also be perfect.

Another large area of 10’s appear in eastern Idaho, including Pocatello, Blackfoot, and Neeley.

Outside the West, a few perfect 10’s show up along Lake Michigan in northern Indiana and northern Michigan.  Some cities here include: Michigan City, Indiana…Elk Rapids, Michigan…and Lincolnwood, Illinois and Hyde Park around Chicago.

I thought it would be interesting to look at the distribution of scores today. This graph shows the total number of grid cells for each PWI score. It clearly shows just how difficult it is to achieve a perfect 10, or for that matter this time of year, a PWI 1. The total number of grid cells is over 1.3 million so percentage wise, the number of perfect 10’s is only 0.0016%!

Great Lakes = Great Weather Tuesday

June 5th, 2012

Tuesday June 5th, 2012

I’m expecting a lovely day around the Great Lakes tomorrow with Indiana leading the way. Northern Michigan will also get in on the nice weather with a large area of PWI 9. Also, a fine day in Chicago, but it will a little cool and breezy right near the lake.

Perfect weather will be confined to the mountainous areas in Southern California. Monrovia, California will come closest to being perfect and is my pick for the day.

Truly awful June weather in the Pacific Northwest. Rain, cool temperatures, and even some high elevation snow is in the forecast. The number of PWI 1’s is quite high for a June day.  Spokane, Washington will certainly see the worst weather in the nation.

Perfect Day To Be At Wrigley Field

May 25th, 2012

May 25th, 2012

Only six grid squares out of over 1.3 million will be a perfect 10 tomorrow as heat and humidity over the East, and a large storm in the West takes a toll on the Perfect Weather Index. All six occur in the Chicago area right next to Lake Michigan. Looks like a perfect day to catch a game at Wrigley Field. Overall, the national mean is down again to 5.6 with Wisconsin scoring the best (mean 7.9). Showers and winds keep Montana at a mean of only 3.6.
