Sunday Lacks Perfect Weather, Except In Alaska

A down day for perfect weather Sunday as there is a noticeable lack of 10s on the map. Colorado has the highest mean but just barely reaches 8/10. There is one exception which is parts of interior and western Alaska. Some perfect weather in mainly unpopulated areas, but the largest town is McGrath. Southern Alaska though quite the opposite which helps keep the state’s mean at 6.5. Louisiana and New York share the worst weather today.

Best Weather Monday Along The Gulf Coast

Monday December 17th, 2012

Monday December 17th, 2012

Perfect weather is still missing from the map Monday as winter really takes hold of the country. Louisiana will see the best weather as a whole Monday, followed closely by Texas. Really awful weather in the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies as snow, wind and rain dominate. Even down in Hawaii the PWI will be held down by some clouds and rain.

Best: 1. Louisiana 2. Texas 3. Mississippi 4. Oklahoma 5. Arkansas
Worst: 1. Oregon 2. Idaho 3. Washington 4. New Hampshire 5. Wyoming

An Ugly Weather Day For Wyoming Saturday

December 8th, 2012

December 8th, 2012

Usually I try to stick to discussing the best weather in the nation, but Saturday is an exception. Wyoming will have one of the worst days I have seen since I started this blog. A winter storm will blow into the Rockies bringing with it snow, high winds, and cold temperatures. The mean for the state is a miserable 1.7 with a PWI 3 being the absolute best the Cowboy State can expect. 8 to 16 inches of snow and 50 to 60 mph wind gusts  will make for a cozy fireplace kind of day.

The other poor location on Saturday will be Southwest Alaska. A storm there will bring rain, snow and high winds creating widespread PWI 1’s from Adak, to Bethel, to Seward.

Is there any good weather tomorrow? As usual, there will be some perfect weather to focus on most of which will be concentrated in Arizona. Some perfect 10’s in the Valley of the Sun including just east of downtown Phoenix in Paradise Valley. Also: Apache Junction, Whittmann, Buckeye, Marana, and Pisinemo. A few isolated 10’s in Southern California including Temecula. Also Cottonwood, New Mexico and Trent, Texas. Overall though, Louisiana will be on top for the mean with 8.3 expected for the Bayou State.

Best: 1. Louisiana 2. Texas 3. South Carolina 4. Arizona 5. Alabama
Worst: 1. Wyoming 2. Rhode Island 3. Montana 4. Massachusetts 5. Vermont

A Fine Weather Day In Cajun Country Friday

Friday December 7th, 2012

Friday December 7th, 2012

Friday looks very typical for an early winter day with a very even north to south distribution. The best weather overall will be in Louisiana with a mean of 8.7. Washington State will be on the bottom tomorrow. The most PWI 10’s will be in the desert of Arizona and include: Wittmann, Apache Junction, Santa Rosa, Hayden, Picture Rocks, and Organ Pipe Cactus National Park. Outside of Arizona, only a few 10’s in California including: Blythe, Bloomington, Woodcrest, and Lake Elsinore.

The mean for Hawaii (in honor of Pearl Harbor Day) will be a pleasant 7.7.

Best: 1. Louisiana 2. Texas 3. Arizona 4. Mississippi 5. Florida
Worst: 1. Washington 2. Pennsylvania 3. New York 4. Vermont 5. Idaho

Good Weather For The Thanksgiving Travel Week

Wednesday November 21st, 2012

It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted a perfect weather index forecast. I’m not sure if I want to spend the time to create this map every day but we’ll see after this long break. Let me know if you are still interested in seeing it or if you have some recommendations on how to improve it.

So I was surprised returning to this that it should be a pretty good day tomorrow overall. Some great weather in the Deep South which is no surprise this time of year. I was surprised to see PWI 9’s as far north as South Dakota tomorrow. Even some perfect 10’s in far eastern Colorado around Fairfield and Vernon. A large area of 10’s in eastern Oklahoma from Wilson to Fort Smith, Arkansas. Further south, Beatrice, Mississippi…Jackson, Louisiana…and Rock Hill, Alabama all look perfect tomorrow.

The Pacific Northwest looks abysmal tomorrow, but a few 10’s it the Desert Southwest.  Here I’ve got Lake Piru, California…Woodcrest, California…Golden Valley, Arizona…and a few other sparse desert locations as perfect.

Also worth mentioning that there will be lots of clouds and showers in Hawaii which holds the PWI to a mean of 6.2…which is quite low for this tropical paradise.

Best: 1. Louisiana 2. Mississippi 3. Florida 4. Alabama 5. Oklahoma
Worst: 1. Oregon 2. Washington 3. Idaho 4. Montana 5. Maine

Beautiful Weather In The Bayous

Friday October 29th, 2012

Louisiana tops the Perfect Weather Index list on Friday with a mean of  8.9. The Bayou State achieves this without any perfect 10’s. All of the perfect 10’s will be out West tomorrow with Colorado seeing the most, but cool temperatures in the mountains hold the mean in the state to 8.3 which is 13th on the list. Some 10’s in Colorado include: Arvada, DIA, Fort Morgan, Sterling, Lamar, Walsenburg, and Fountain. The Panhandle of Texas will see some perfect weather as well including: Pampa, Borger, Dumas, and Masterson.

A few others:

Espanola, New Mexico…Gandao, Arizona…Caineville, Utah, Zion National Park, Utah…Fremont, California…Salinas, California…Preston, Nevada.

A big low pressure in the Great Lakes will keep most of the northern states below PWI 6 on Friday. The worst of which will be Indiana. Most of the Great Lake States will be lower than Alaska, mainly due to the clouds and precipitation. The way the PWI works, you could have a terribly cold day, but with sunny skies and light winds…still achieve a relatively good score. In deed, this is the case tomorrow as most of Alaska will be below freezing for highs, but with quite a bit of sunshine.

I have not done a featured location in quite a while so today I thought I would pick Ganado, Arizona. Near by is Hubbell Trading Postwhich is run by the National Park Service and ion the list of National Historic Sites. From the NPS web site: “John Lorenzo Hubbell purchased the trading post in 1878, ten years after Navajos were allowed to return to their homeland from their terrible exile at Bosque Redondo, Ft. Sumner, New Mexico. During the four years spent at Bosque Redondo, Navajos were introduced to many new items. Traders like Hubbell supplied those items once they returned home.

Hubbell had an enduring influence on Navajo rugweaving and silversmithing, for he consistently demanded and promoted excellence in craftsmanship. He built a trading empire that included stage and freight lines as well as several trading posts. At various times, he and his two sons, together or separately, owned 24 trading posts, a wholesale house in Winslow, and other business and ranch properties. Beyond question, he was the foremost Navajo trader of his time.”

Best: 1. Louisiana 2. New Mexico 3. Alabama 4. Mississippi 5. Nevada
Worst: 1. Indiana 2. Iowa 3. Minnesota 4. Illinois 5. New Hampshire

Isaac Comes Ashore; New England Perfect Weather Outbreak

Wednesday August 29th, 2012

Expected Rainfall From Isaac

Isaac should come ashore early Wednesday with the usual potpourri of terrible weather. New Orleans should see the brunt of the bad weather with a foot rain expected. Yes, a foot…or even more! Meanwhile, an outbreak of perfect weather in New England, especially for northern Pennsylvania where a giant streak of PWI 10’s will be found from Erie to  Warren to Wysox. In Central New York: Erwinds, Townsend, Mapleton, and Marysville to name a few. Also a large area in the Hudson Valley of New York from Ticonderoga to Saratoga Springs to Tray and Catskill. A lot of 10’s  in New Hampshire including Rye,  Jaffrey and Northwood.

Out West, perfect 10’s mainly scattered through Southeast Oregon and few in California. In Oregon: Bly, and Lorella, Merrill. In California: Monte Rio, San Rafael, Piedmont, Santa Cruz, Ventura, Santa Monica, and Imperial Beach.

Eerie, Pennsylvania

Best 1. Connecticut 2. Pennsylvania 3. Massachusetts 4. Rhode Island 5. New York
Worst 1. Louisiana 2. Mississippi 3. Alaska 4. Florida 5. Georgia
