A Down Day Weather-wise Friday

A down day on the PWI with very few 10s to be had Friday. Some small areas of 10s high in the mountains of Colorado, Nevada, and California. The worst weather will be in New England with Maine coming out on the bottom. Overall, the heat and precipitation will keep the entire country down.

A Great Weather Day For The Northeast Wednesday

Wednesday looks like a real winner for the Northeast part of the country. Perfect 10s from New York to Maine including: Boston, Portland, Montpelier, and Syracuse. A secondary area of perfect weather in the Magic Valley of Idaho including Twin Falls. Rhode Island’s small size propels them to the best weather state.

Best: 1. Rhode Island 2. Massachusetts 3. New York 4. New Hampshire 5. Connecticut
Worst: 1. Illinois 2. Florida 3. Virginia 4. Iowa 5. Missouri

The weather in New England of late has been pretty miserable so they are due for some nice weather and today will see the start of that. Most states from North Carolina to New Hampshire will see a PWI score of least 8 with Rhode Island topping 9. This trend will continue the next few days although PWI scores may not reflect it as temperatures near 90 in some areas. Too much of a good thing.

Best: 1. Rhode Island 2. Massachusetts 3. Maryland 4. Connecticut 5. Pennsylvania
Worst: 1. Oregon 2. Idaho 3. Washington 4. Nevada 5. Wyoming

Perfect Weather In Upstate New York; But Not For Wind Farms

Wednesday August 22nd, 2012

The nice weather has now penetrated all the way to the Deep South. PWI 7’s and 8’s south to northern Mississippi and Alabama. The mean for the nation is 7.1 on Wednesday, but the lowest in the Continental U.S. is Florida…only 5.4 which is actually not bad for August.

Essentially two regions of perfect weather to talk about. New England will have three states in the top 5 with Maine leading the way. A strip of 10’s just inland from the coast including: Perry, Whiting, Marshfield, and Eastbrook. Next door in New Hampshire: Lincoln, Easton, and York Pond score 10’s. The foothills of the Green Mountains in Vermont also score perfect with Richford, Enosburg, Bolton, and Granville 10’s. A few locations on the east side of the Adirondack’s as well such as: Altona, Saranac, and St., Huberts.

Altona, New York wind farm

Altona, NewYork is the subject of my feature today as it is quite near to me. Interestingly, and probably surprising to a lot of people, is that this areas is home to a large number of wind farms. New York is rapidly expanding is wind generation capacity and is now one of the largest east of the Mississippi River. The amount of wind farms in the US is rapidly expanding as the map below clearly shows, and they are no longer strictly in desert areas. Incidentally, My Perfect Weather Index calls for relatively light winds so not great energy generating weather for wind farms in New York.

Anyway, in the West, quite a number of perfect 10’s in Idaho, mainly in the mountains including: Calder, Golden, Red River Hot Springs, Big Creek, Warm Lake, Obsisian, Galena and Sun Valley. Also a few in Eastern Washington, but more in Oregon including Crescent Lake. Down in California: Guerneville, Shively, and Big Pine Mountain.

Best       1. Maine 2. Vermont 3. New Hampshire 4. Idaho 5. New York
Worst   1. Alaska 2. Florida 3. Arizona 4. Nebraska 5. Kansas

July Ends With The Best Weather In Massachusetts

Tuesday July 31st, 2012

While two New England states, Massachusetts and Maine, will average out to be the best weather in the nation on Tuesday…it’s the Pacific Northwest with the most number of perfect 10 locations. Most of those occur in the Cascade Mountains in areas with some elevation. I thought I might add some pictures of the places with the best weather to go along with my maps, just so the blog doesn’t get stale.

So today’s image is of the McKenzie River in Oregon. Some picks for perfect 10’s tomorrow include…McKenzie Birdge, Oregon…Detroit, Oregon…Greenhorn, Oregon…Monte Rio, California…Santa Cruz, California…Burgdorf, Idaho.

Bridgeville, California A Perfect 10 This Weekend

Saturday July 21st, 2012

Sunday July 22nd, 2012

There’s no doubt New England will see the best weather in the nation on Saturday. Widespread PWI 9’s and 10’s from Caribou, Maine south to Providence, Rhode Island! Southwest Oregon will also see some fine weather Saturday and Sunday and will probably be the best region overall for the weekend. There is, however, one location in the nation that will see a perfect 10 on both Saturday and Sunday and that is Bridgeville, California. This town is in the mountains of Northern California about 30 miles from the coast in the land of the Redwood Forest. A few other picks for perfect 10’s on Saturday include: Keene Valley, NY…Wallingford, VT…Hawley, MA…Curlew, WA…and Silver Falls, OR.

Sunday will not be quite as nice nationally as the mean for the nation drops from 6.5 to 6.3. New England will still see nice weather but it will be warmer than Saturday. All of the perfect 10’s will be out West mainly in Oregon and the panhandle of Idaho. Picks for perfect 10’s on Sunday include: Hope, ID…Steamboat, OR…and Howard Prairie, OR.

I would also like to point out some perfect 10’s in Hawaii…which is actually a little unusual given the high humidity there. Of course, these occur well inland in the mountains. Two picks for 10’s Sunday include: Kula on Maui and Waikii on the Big Island.
