Best Labor Day Weather Will Be In The Seattle Area

Labor Day September 3rd, 2012

Microsoft could not have engineered better Labor Day weather. Perfect 10’s abound in the Seattle area including Redmond, Washington home of Microsoft. Nearer to Puget Sound, temperatures will be slightly cooler so downtown Seattle/Tacoma will be 9’s instead of 10, but from Snohomish south to Renton and Spanaway a line of perfect 10’s will appear.

Overall for Labor Day, New Hampshire will have the highest mean with a beautiful 8.9. In fact, four out the top five states will be in New England tomorrow.

A few other perfect’s include: Ponemah, Minnesota…Belknap, Montana…Kellog, Idaho…Craigmont, Idaho…Multnomah Falls, Oregon…Yacolt, Washington, and my wife’s home town of Afton, Wyoming.

Crater Lake, Oregon

Worst Labor Day you ask? Obviously it’s in Alaska as the entire state is rapidly moving into fall. King Salmon’s forecast is probably the worst with rain, highs in the 50s, and wind gusts to 45 mph.

I know there will be a lot of people recreating tomorrow, so I thought I would add best National Park to the discussion today. Crater Lake National Park will be the best with a mean of 9.1. Worst? Kings Mountain National Military Park in South Carolina with a mean of 4.0. Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the U.S. and the second deepest in North America with a maximum depth of 1,949 feet.

The best beach weather for the holiday will be Rio Del Mar Beach in California which scores a perfect 10. Many beaches score the low of PWI 5 and these will be mainly in the Mid-Atlantic from Delaware to Virginia.

Best 1. New Hampshire 2. Maine 3. Massachusetts 4. Rhode Island 5. Oregon
Worst 1. Alaska 2. Georgia 3. Alabama 4. South Carolina 5. Delaware

Cold Front Puts New England On Top Thursday

Thursday July 19th, 2012

After relatively long (by New England standards) heat wave, a front sagging south through the region will usher in cooler and drier air. This will create a plethora of PWI 9’s and even a few 10’s. The 10’s are in the Connecticut River Valley around Littleton, New Hampshire. The UP of Michigan is on the list again right on the shore of Lake Superior. The only town there with a perfect 10 us Crisp Point, Michigan. Out West, pretty warm weather and not a lot of perfect 10’s. Only a few places in California around the Bay Area. My pick here is Gonzales, California. Overall, New Hampshire bests Vermont by a hair. Another beautiful day in south-central Alaska! Widespread PWI 9’s in some of the most visited location including: Anchorage, Seward, Soldotna, and Wasilla.

    Best                         Worst

1. New Hampshire       1. Alabama
2. Vermont                     2. Georgia
3. New York                   3. Maryland

Summertime Heat Dampens Perfect Weather Index

July 13th, 2012

Friday July 13th, 2012

Nice weather will take a break across the country Friday as summertime heat plagues the Perfect Weather Index. New England will continue to be the best in the nation, but the overall mean is slipping as temperatures rise. New Hampshire will be the best, but with a mean of only 7.9. The national mean is down to 6.3. Only 19 grid squares in the entire nation can be called perfect on Friday…all of which are on the West Coast. The nearest town to a perfect 10 is between Monterio and Guerneville, California. A few also show up in the Coast Range of Oregon west of Salem (my hometown btw). Hopefully the weekend will show some improvement.

   Best                          Worst

1. New Hampshire       1. Alabama
2. Vermont                     2. Mississippi
3. Connecticut               3. Florida
4. Oregon                         4. Tennessee
5. Rhode Island             5. Georgia

Weekend Outlook: New England Continues It’s Beautiful Weather

June 16th, 2012

Saturday June 16th, 2012

This weekend looks like a great one, especially for the East Coast from New England to the Carolinas. The best weather on Saturday will once again be in New Hampshire and Maine. Lots of perfect 10’s on the map again in this area. Some of these include: Skowhegan, Maine…North Conway, New Hampshire…Concord, New Hampshire…Wallingford, Vermont…and Chesterfield, Massachusetts.

Out West, it’s a little on the warm side for many locations and this keeps the perfect 10’s to a minimum. The most will be in Idaho so my pick there is Silver City, Idaho.

I applied the PWI to beaches and National Parks Saturday. The best beach was Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Beach near Monterey, California or New Brighton State Beach near Santa Cruz, California. As I said before, warmer weather may be more preferable on a beach, but this is all I have to work with at the  moment. I might make another model just for that in the future. Applying it to a National Park works well though. Many parks came out with a PWI 9, but many are only a few grid squares because they are so small…such as Appomattox Courthouse. The largest park with a 9 was Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreational River. The worst weather in a National Park will be North Cascades in Washington.

           Best By State

1. New Hampshire     1. Iowa
2. Maine                         2. Arkansas
3. Delaware                   3. Wisconsin
4. Vermont                   4. Oklahoma
5. Connecticut             5. Louisiana

June 17th, 2012

Sunday June 17th, 2012

Very little change on Sunday. New England still comes out on top, finishing with an amazing weekend! This time though, New Jersey has the highest mean with an 8.9. Some perfect locations in New England include: Mercer, Maine…Bridgewater, Vermont…Pettersborough, New Hampshire…Chester, Massachusetts.

A lot of perfect 10’s in Oregon east of the Cascade Mountains Sunday. Prineville, Oregon is right in the center of that. Another pick out West is Hayward, California in the Bay Area. I should also point out a great day in the interior of Alaska Sunday with a lot of PWI 9’s appearing.

Best National Park: Delaware Water Gap
Worst National Park: North Cascades
Best Beach: Escondido Beach, California

           Best By State
Best                         Worst

1. New Jersey                1. Oklahoma
2. Vermont                     2. Missouri
3. New Hampshire       3. Texas
4. Connecticut              4. Indiana
5. Delaware                     5. Kansas

Perfect Weather In New England Friday

June 15th, 2012

Friday June 15th, 2012

Looks like another spectacular day in store for New England Friday. That will be good for my garden and my garage sale! New Hampshire (mean 9.2) will be out Maine (mean 9.1) for the highest overall score, but this hardly fair since Maine has so much more area…part of which is cool coastline. Lots of perfect 10 location in New England including: Guerette, Maine…Gorham, Maine…Hooksett, New Hampshire…Stratton, Vermont…Florida, Massachusetts…Margaretville, New York…and Cresson, Pennsylvania.

After a long cold and wet spell in the Pacific Northwest, lots of perfect 10’s will pop up on Friday in mainly Oregon and Washington…and mainly east of the Cascade Mountains. My two picks are Madras, Oregon and Manson, Washington. I’ll also include Live Oak, California.

    Best                          Worst

1. New Hampshire       1. Texas
2. Maine                           2. Oklahoma
3. Connecticut               3. Kansas
4. Vermont                     4. Louisiana
5. Massachusetts          5. Mississippi

Rogue River Valley

May 7th, 2012

May 7th, 2012

A very nice day in store for several location in the USA today, May 7th, 2012. The largest concentration of fine weather will be found in Oregon and portions of New England. The Rogue River Valley including Roseburg and Winchester, Oregon will see some exceptional weather…finally. Temperature will reach near 80, which is slightly warm on my scale, but still good enough for a solid 9 on the PWI. Fantastic weather from southern New Hampshire through central Maine. My pick here is Concord, New Hampshire. Only a few clouds prevent it from being a perfect 10. Des Moines, Iowa and Long Beach, California also join the 9 club.

The worst weather by far, will be in the mountains of Colorado where late season snow will fall.
