Stormy Evening Over Northern Vermont

Stormy evening over Northern Vermont

While it was not a perfect 10 day by any stretch of the imagination here in Vermont on Sunday, it was a great evening for cloud viewing. This picture I took at sunset looking east over the Green Mountains near Bakersfield, Vermont. I had been photographing another location with limited results when I left to go home and saw this cumulonimbus in my rear view mirror. I immediately pulled over to get a better look and when I did, I knew I had to grab my tripod to get a shot. The natural scenery of Vermont makes the drama in the sky seem so peaceful.

What Does Perfect Weather Look Like?

Perfect Vermont Weather

A Perfect Weather Day In Vermont

After careful consideration of my forecast and spending many hours outside doing “evaluation”, I have decided today was indeed perfect.
The smell of fresh cut grass on a
light breeze…the puffy cumulus clouds lazily drifting through the sky…and temperatures so pleasant, anyone would call it comfortable. This all contributed to this amazing day in Vermont.

One technical detail I realized is that my GIS model of perfect weather is fairly forgiving of minor flaws. If the high temperature had been as high as 78 degrees, it would have still

averaged a perfect 10 due to rounding. So, a warm day of 75 degrees and a fair amount of humidity yielding a heat indexof 80 degrees, would still round out to a perfect 10. Any particular category could be off by two break points and still average a 10. I find this interesting, but probably nobody else does.

In any case, there was no denying today was as good as it gets…for me anyway. And it happened on a Saturday. Bonus!

Definition Of Perfect Weather

Lake Champlain, Vermont

Lake Champlain, Vermont

We enjoyed a nearly perfect weather day here in Vermont today! While it did get a little warm for my taste (low 80s), it did confirm what the maps have been showing. I would certainly rate it a 9 out of 10. Winds were light, but enough of a breeze to keep the air circulating. Very few clouds except a few puffy cumulus. The humidity levels were pretty low today as well keeping things comfortable. Unfortunately, as the day wore on, smoke from wildfires in Ontario, Canada drifted in and made the sky fairly hazy. All in all though, a spectacular day here in New England. Hopefully the weather where you are this weekend is just as good!
